Google Marketing

How do I do Google Marketing?  This is a question that I hear quite a bit.  These days, if you are not on Google, you just haven’t hit the big time yet.   Well, that is the way it seems anyway.

I recently read an ebook called GetGoogleAdsFree.

The book claims that a New York professional man got more than one million worth of Google’s PPC ads free of cost. It went on to say that he did not get them illicitly and that Google in fact did not mind.  To be completely honest with you, you get free Google adwords PPC ads. Google a lot of funds through Adwords and its related program, Adsense.   What would happen if every one quickly had a way to get these PPC ads for free?  So what are they talking roughly speaking?

The writer of the , GetGoogleAdsFree, knows that you cannot get free Google Adwords PPC ads.  Although the title is a bit misleading, I really enjoyed the book and the google mareting concept of what the author was trying to get across.  It essentially talks about strategies that allow you to do thousands and thousand of advertising on google or any other search engine and have others foot the bill for you by selling ad spots on your website to other companies.  It is not a foreign concept, but it was good to see the process in action.  Learning from other people’s experiences and successes is very crucial in online marketing because it changes everyday and you have to rely on other people’s stories to help you get to the top.  I would recommend the book.  Check out the website HERE.

LiveMeeting? I pass.

Live Meeting Review. So, I was looking for a way to do some video webinars with customers and clients. I ran into a couple of options, one being Microsoft Live meeting. The website demo was impressive and made me excited get it going. I signed up and tried the system. First of all, my computer took quite a while to load up the live meeting software. That was the first hit against it. Now I just wonered how easy it would be for my attendees to join my meeting. So, I tried it out.

The result? Only about 40% of my people on my first trial meeting could even get into the meeting. How frustrating. That would really hurt if you had paying customers on the webinar. I tried a few more time, with similar results. My attendees told me that they had to load a file and it just sat there and wouldn’t load up for them.

I was done with that right there. Instead of LiveMeeting, try a more reliable service like Webex Free trial

. That is the way I went. More expensive, but has good reliability and an easy interface with video capabilities.

YTB Travel News

Some YTB Travel News recently came out about the financial situation of the company for their first quarter.Sounds like it is pretty good news for them financially. Here is some of the numbers and a few highlights.

REVENUES – Up 76.7% to $24.7 Million for the quarter.

Property and Equipment – Up 22.7% from $15.4 Million to $18.9 Million.

RTAs – From 82,932 last year to 138,814 this year.

Investments in the business – Last year invested $1.3 Million in the company. This year they invested $4.1 Million.

They showed a net loss for the quarter because we spent over $3 Million on the company expansion.

No matter how you look at YTB, it looks like they have a very fast growing, very amazing company.

California Wildfires

CORRALITOS, Calif. —  Calmer winds and heavy fog brought some much-needed relief Friday morning to firefighters working to rein in a wildfire that quickly consumed a dozen buildings in the Santa Cruz Mountains a day earlier.

By dawn, the blaze was 20 percent contained after scorching 3,100 acres. The fire was still growing, but not significantly, said Joe Waterman, a Cal Fire incident commander.

“Once the marine layer moves back out, activity will pick up a little bit,” Waterman said. “We have a lot of forces mobilized, and we are optimistic we’ll be able to hold it today.”

About 1,400 residents remained under evacuation orders — more than 300 of them mandatory — while more than 900 firefighters and a swarm of tanker planes and helicopters continued dousing the area. More fire personnel were on their way, Waterman said.

No injuries have been reported from the fire, which was first reported Thursday morning. The cause remained under investigation.

The fire is in the mountain range that separates Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties — about 15 miles south of San Jose — and the rural area is dotted with homes.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency for Santa Cruz County, allowing access to state funds. He was scheduled to attend a briefing in the area later Friday morning.

The milder morning conditions were a stark change from Thursday, when winds gusting up to 50 mph frustrated efforts to fight the blaze. Officials had estimated the fire would grow to 10,000 acres before being contained.

Rebecca Henson, 45, was woken up Thursday morning by a neighbor to smoke and ash blanketing her wood cabin in Corralitos. She quickly evacuated with her dog, resigning herself to the possibility that her home burned after they left.

“That thing’s gonna go up like a torch — it’s got wood floors, wood ceilings, everything,” Henson said as she gathered with about 75 other evacuees at a central market in another part of town. “There wasn’t an official evacuation, but we’re mountain folks and we’re pretty used to independent living. So it didn’t take too much common sense to realize this thing is close, we gotta go.”

The blaze also was swirling around Maymen Flats, a tiny community of about seven homes that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and the city of Santa Cruz.

Ian McClelland, 50, who has lived there since 1987 on his 23-acre ranch, woke up Thursday morning to an orange glow on the hillside, and he immediately let his two horses free so they would have a better chance at surviving.

“There was not an opportunity to do anything,” McClelland said. “There was no opportunity to put them in a trailer. So I just let them loose. They had a good chance that way.”

When he returned to his property for a few minutes, nothing was left except the concrete foundations. Two of his ten dogs also died in the blaze.

“I don’t think it’s hit me yet,” McClelland said, his voice shaky. Kenneth Kim, 66, stood on a ridge overlooking Maymen Flats, and peered through binoculars to see how his house was faring against the flames.

Kim initially seemed optimistic. But then the smoke cleared, giving him a better view: Smoke was coming from his home of 20 years.

“Oh, it’s gone. It’s smoldering,” Kim said. “I feel very scared, mad and … to start all over, I don’t know how.”

Avon Cozy Warming Polar Bears

Avon Products Inc. is recalling Cozy Warming Polar Bears sold exclusively by Avon Products from July 2007 to February 2008.

The warming pouch inside the bear can overheat and ignite when heated in a microwave oven, posing a fire and burn hazard.

The recalled white plush warming bear has a red hat and brown nose. It is about 17 inches long and comes with a buckwheat-filled pouch that is heated in a microwave oven and is inserted into an opening in the bear’s belly.

“Avon Products” is printed on a white tag sewn onto the bear.

USANA Buyout Offer

In the latest news on USANA’s bid to go private, the company has just announced that its board of directors has formed and independent panel to evaluate the buyout offer.

The buyout offer came a week ago from Gull Holdings, Ltd which is controlled by Myron Wentz who happens to also be the CEO of USANA, as well as the nutritional company’s largest shareholder.

The independent council has retained Morrison & Foerster LLP as a legal advisor. The council is planning to seek the advice of a financial advisor before reaching any kind of decision. Having worked with Morrison Foerester before, this is an excellent choice of firms for this potential transaction.

It looks like any kind of decision is still a few weeks away,….we will keep you up to date with any new developments.

Herbalife Boosts Share Buyback Program – Possible Move To Go Private?

Herbalife has had a bit of a rough month as we have pointed out in several posts. The company yesterday announced that its board has approved a $150 million increase to the company’s share repurchase program.

The boost raises the total authorized value of the buyback program to $600 million.

As of April 28, Herbalife had 65.1 million shares outstanding so the new program will allow the company to purchase roughly another 3.75M shares on top of the already 11M it is repurchased since April 2007. The move may be significant because the company is taking more aggressive steps to own its shares as opposed to letting them be in the publics hands – or in this case, Minkow’s possibly. The company would have to come up with another $500M to take a majority position in the company (at today’s stock price) which leads me to believe that Minkow’s plan may actually backfire.

Think about this, if Minkow is successful in tarnishing the Herbalife brand from a PR standpoint and in particluar, as it relates to its stock, the company will need to come up with less cash to purchase its stock and take the company private. If this happens (going private) Minkow would not have the financial vehicle he is allegedly using today to finance his operations (it has been alleged that Minkow owns short positions in companies like Herbalife and USANA and the winfall profits he makes from the stocks going down from his “research” provides the financial capital for him to fund his operation).

A private Herbalife would have a mass of cash to focus on building the business, marketing its products through its distribution network and giving back to the community without having to deal with the distractions of being public. At this juncture, I really dont see any value in Herbalife being a public company. The focus should be on the distributors which make up the heart and soul of the organization and make them the shareholders through a private investment bonus pool that can reward and compensate success. While Minkow may be successful in bringing some issues to light, he does need to be careful that he doesnt push too far so that he is unable to fund his operations as he appears to be today.
